Weekly Letter: A Note from a Small Business

A note from a small business.

As we head into the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to share with you a few things from the perspective of the small business community.

First of all, Thank you. Thank you for your continued support of the studio and store. The small business landscape has changed dramatically over the last 4 years and pivoting with it has been a real test. So thank you for pivoting with me.

I think we all saw the impact we each have on small businesses over the last few years. Sometimes it feels impossible to support every space you want to, so I thought I would share with you some things you can do that require very little of your time and energy, but make a great impact.

1.      If you can shop small, please do. No matter the size of your purchase, your presence facilitates more energy and builds. So please stop in and say hello, look around and know that even that bit of effort makes a difference to us.

2.      Staying on newsletters. Small businesses are less likely to share or sell your contact info, I wish I could say they all don’t, but that’s not true. Newsletters like mine are written in-house and are often the best way to get the most current events for a business. For the record, I do not share or sell your info.

3.      Like or share social media posts. While we love a share, I understand you might not want to fill your feed that way. Just liking posts goes a LONG way for us. If you notice you haven’t seen us post in a while, go directly to the page and like the last 5 posts to get it pulled back into your regular feed. This doesn’t cost anything and helps us a LOT!

Finally, I implore you to remove the ‘I’ll do it the next time it comes around’ from your thinking. Small businesses who don’t make their minimum needed numbers on an event, will not waste their time doing it again. Businesses cannot afford to wait for you, if they don’t get the attention, registration or more from something, they will not do it anymore. There will be no ‘next time.’ We are seeing restaurants open and close in a MUCH shorter window than ever before. Same for retail. These ventures are cutting their losses WAY earlier than in times past. So, if it doesn’t work quickly, it doesn’t stay.

Your likes matter.

Your attention is the new currency.

~Carmen
