Weekly Letter: A note on perfection
I was teaching a class on perfection the other day and something came to me that I had to jot down quickly before I forgot. Has that ever happened to you?
The thing about perfection:
It’s too limiting.
There are too many rules.
I think my generation is skeptical of perfection. It was this thing we pretended to be when we posed for photos or showed up to a school event. It wasn’t an accurate representation of anything other than the fight it took to be perceived that way. And quite frankly, I’m not sure we even did that good of a job.
Perfection leaves little room for humanity, for presence of being, for growth. And that doesn’t sound like very much fun, but another prison of our own making.
So the moral of the story is, perfection is crap.
The good stuff lives within the fluid edges of being active participants of this life.
